With the spotlight being shone on the many instances of police brutality, community unrest, college going statistics, and more, it is critical that young men—our emerging “family” leaders—have enhanced opportunities to engage with and be supported by other men and peers with the goal to create an atmosphere of success, a community that goes beyond emphasizing survival, and provides the space that thriving—reaching one’s full potential—is not a wish but a reality.
The ETL Education Foundation, in partnership with the Eta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. embraces that potential reality and The Black Lives Matter --Black Men Thrive Mentoring and Literacy Program is designed to help make it so.
Over the course of 8-10 virtual sessions, participants will read Promise Boys by Nick Brooks. Promise Boys is a blockbuster, dark academia mystery about three teens of color who must investigate their principal’s murder to clear their own names.”
The themes are broad enough for diverse application to the challenges, aspirations, and issues that influence our daily lives. We anticipate lively discussions led by participants and facilitated by mentors. At the end, we will reset with a new text and a new set of themes.
